What if the SS were relaxed because they had stopped what they thought was the assassin in the setup hence failure in Buttler or bicameral case to give them that shielding of their innocence?
Worth asking, but I am not sure that the USSS knew that the FBI has arrested Merchant on July 12 and I think most likely they were not aware. Even if they were, there is still the issue of the work pre-event not being well done (the security plan, meeting with local LE, increasing number of personal and equipment on Trump's detail, etc).
In retrospect, I think Wray was very quick to say the Iran plot was separate from the Butler, PA event because he wanted not only to bring clarity to both issues, but also because he wanted to head off the USSS blaming the FBI for what are USSS's failures to secure that event.
Could the FBI have its own two tiered system of white hats and black hats? White hates knew of Merchant and knew his capabilities and used him to entrap the black hats with the FBI and DOJ? After all JH, they really tried to assassinate Trump and came less than an inch of succeeding!
