I noticed during the last parts of 2024 and into 2025, where my ideas and my thoughts were being influenced from. When you went on Sabbatical, it allowed me to look at who was involved, and to start either drifting from them, or to start cutting cords to truly get back to being the "ronin" that I once proclaimed to be.
What you talked about there, with people being more willing to let experts be the cognitive guide on things, is why we got to where we were today. It's also an explanation of why I like people who are well rounded, and have done lots of things. The "Jack of all Trades, master of none", if you will.
This is also why I like what you do, and have stuck with you since the days of the SaulBoards. Because you're well rounded.
Thank you for the confirmation that I am truly my ronin's path again.
I experienced something similar while away. Through meditation and some other work, I became more aware of my generally high sensitivity (to all things) and capacity to be influenced. Two traits that are often characterized as inherently disadvantageous.
I came to see how they can be strengths when accepted and given their due. Such as exercising empathy, being a better listener, learning something quickly, experiencing art on a deeper level, etc.
To be clear, very few of my opinions or beliefs have changed in any significant way, but the canvas they are painted on has expanded, the colors have more gradience, and the bold signature in the corner is my own.
Kyle, your courage to be open about personal feelings is welcomed. You are among friends who appreciate your candor and honesty. This show was very enjoyable and you are exactly where you need to be!
Perfect timing for me personally! This message is exactly what I needed to hear, Kyle.....I appreciate the advice & will definitely take it to heart. Take care ~~~
I have limited time for podcasts, so I’m not catching you as often as I’d like. I so very much enjoyed the cumulative insights that you and BB and Jon brought to DPH. Your thoughts are unique and helpful, and I’m glad you are finding your home.
I take everything the media says with a grain of salt, there is nothing they want more is to push fear and that fear is greater now that Trump is in the office, we elected him to do a job and countries have been tariffing us but when we do it to them and we used to do this it’s now a issue! We have short term memory loss because we are in this mess because of the Democrats spending and those same democrats control the narrative on their mainstream media! It’s because of you I no longer jump the gun and start screaming but sit back and wait it out to make a decision! Thanks bro, I pray all is well and wish you the best!
In 2020 I was a healthcare executive in a large urban hospital. The Chief Medical Officer, a MD who was deeply suspicious of the accepted pandemic narrative, said something telling. We were at a townhall q&a for all staff to inquire of the Chiefs. The question: “What has been the most important or hardest lesson you have learned (through the pandemic experience)?” The CMO answered, “You can know the right thing to do, but be prevented from doing it. That’s been my hardest lesson.” It was a brave and career-limiting statement made indirectly to his boss in front of the entire enterprise. He did not stay with the company much longer. Never knew if he left voluntarily. I’ll forever admire his courage of conviction.
Whatever you were going through at the time of Defected---I could relate to at the time. You gave a safe place for BB to endure the thrashing of Jon--it was brutal, but you were so helpful to me at the time.
I have a great book you may be interested in, JH. It's called Streams in the Desert. It is written by L.B. Cowman and was updated by James Reimann. You can find it on Amazon....I know....sorry! Today's 'gift' began with 2 Corinthians 12:10 - 'That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.' It is very powerful what Reimann then goes on to break down. I think this might be a book you would like as you continue, as we ALL continue, on our journeys through our most difficult times where we learn the most about ourselves.
~ great episode, wonderful insights on how our lizard brain still drives emotion & cognition. Rob Henderson's book, "Troubled" is incredibly powerful. I highly recommend it. One of primary points he makes in the book is that the plight of foster kids & the way they are treated by adults & the govt is not just a lifetime of economic loss for the kid, but rather an horrific human cost. Earning less is more easily measurable than the psychological harms caused by an unstable childhood so it is used as a proxy for the social costs. Henderson has reviewed lots of psych & sociological data & is convinced that unstable homes have greater impact than income level or education attainment when it comes to 'success'. He emphasizes the human cost foremost, for why we need to care abt at risk children. Thanks for another thoughtful & stimulating episode. ~
